Evan's Folly

Evan's Folly.

Forget matching tattoos, cheap love locks on the Ha'penny bridge, or the Pont des Arts in the city of love. If it is a true declaration of love that you're after, a round tower is the way to go!

This round tower, known as Evans Folly, situated to the left of St. Ita's, as you look from the front gates, draws the eye from all directions. It stands 100ft high. Sophie Evans erected it in memory of her deceased husband George (died in 1844). A marble bust of Mr. Evans, originally contained within the tower, had this inscription:

"To the memory of George Evans M.P., an honest man, firm friend and true patriot. This monument a revival of the ancient architecture of his country, is respectfully, affectionately and mournfully dedicated."
